Re: 18 hrs to download 340 MB? |
Thanks for this note Coyotic.
I don't think that the problem will be find in regard of
T-com with a DSL line or any computer you may use.
I've installed "Filezilla". No chance to let it work.
Then I wrote the technical support as follow:
Sorry to disturb you again... I have another problem.
I've installed "Filezilla" hoping to be able to download movie files faster. Well done.
Then I read your recommendations in the Faq's:
"Can I download files via FTP?
Yes - via anonymous FTP. We highly recommend using FTP to download large files.
On the item's details page, look for the "FTP" link next to "all files" on the left side of the page. Click the "FTP" link and you'll see all the files listed and the ftp address where you can find them.
Open your FTP program, connect to that ftp address, and then download the file you want. The advantage of using FTP is that it will usually handle a service disruption gracefully. If it gets interrupted, when the service is back it should resume the download where it left off."
Fine...
My problem is by now that I don't see any "FTP" link next to "all files" on the left side of the page but only HTTP (in this case a movie of Lee Wilder
http://www.archive.org/details/Phantom_From_Space)
What can I do now?
May I forget all and do without Archive Org?
For me a great pity.
André
Let's see if the technical support will answer!?

Re: 18 hrs to download 340 MB? |
Thanks so much greenone!
How to come on this idea? I wouldn't have been able too.
So simple... but unfortunately no mentions in the FAQ's
about this simple way of loosing the problem...
Now my computer works and tell me... about 11 hours download time. Much better as before! I'll let it work over night, let's see what's the result tomorrow morning.
I'll let you know.
André.

Re: 18 hrs to download 340 MB? |
Oh well...
I've been downloading music off the archive for a couple of years, and haven't had this problem to this extreme before.
I'm getting my old PC back from the repair guys in a couple of days! Then i will see if it is server or computer... without question.
hang in there!

Re: 18 hrs to download 340 MB? |
Hi greenone and coyotic
Problem solved.
Filezilla installed, change HTTP in FTP in the download area.
Works perfect.
Instead of 80 hours need 5-7 hours to download a 300Mb movie.
Thanks you all.
André.
